8 Ways to Keep Your Cat Happy and Healthy

September 1, 2017
Did you know that September is a very special month for kitties? It’s Happy, Healthy Cat Month! While our feline friends certainly deserve to be happy and healthy all year long, this is a great time to take a close look at your feline friend’s care regimen. In this article from Westside Animal Hospital, a Savannah, GA vet offers some advice on keeping Fluffy content and purring.

Good Food

Proper nutrition is a crucial part of your furball’s care regimen. Give your kitty premium, nourishing food, and make sure she always has plenty of fresh water. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Regular Veterinary Care

While Fluffy would no doubt rather take a nap than come visit us, making sure she sees the vet regularly is very important. We recommend all cats be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and kept current on their vaccinations, exams, and parasite control.

Playtime

Playing is great for kitties, both physically and mentally. Spend a few minutes a day playing with Fluffy.

Entertainment

Although cats are very, very fond of napping, even the sleepiest furball can’t snooze all the time. Make sure Fluffy has plenty of fun toys to amuse herself with. A good window view is also a must. If you really want to spoil your furball, play her some DVDs or programs for kitties.

Vertical Space

Fluffy can’t see much from ground level, so she likes to try and get up to a higher vantage point. Give your furball a cat tower or some wall-mounted furniture, so she can keep a close eye on her domain.

Cuddles

Although Fluffy may think of herself as a fierce, ferocious predator, cats are actually very emotional, and love to be snuggled and petted. Spend some quality time with your furry friend every day!

Clean Facilities

Kitties like their purrsonal powder rooms nice and clean. We recommend scooping Fluffy’s litterbox out daily, and changing the litter every week.

Keep Kitty Indoors

Although cats enjoy fun outdoor activities like chasing moths, refusing to come in when called, and rolling around in driveways, Fluffy will be safer and healthier as an indoor pet. Kitties that go outdoors are exposed to many serious dangers, such as cars, parasites, weather, and other animals. Do you have questions about your cat’s health or care?
