Choosing Cat Furniture

August 15, 2019
Kitties are very popular pets, and it isn’t hard to see why. They are not only absolutely adorable, they’re also very easy keepers. In fact, your feline pal will probably spend the majority of her time snoozing. But, while Fluffy has no qualms about sleeping on your things, she’ll really appreciate some pieces that were made just for her. In this article from Westside Animal Hospital, a Savannah, GA vet offers tips on choosing cat furniture.

Beds

As far as our feline buddies are concerned, there is just no such thing as too many beds. Offer Fluffy lots of comfy beds to curl up in. Kitties tend to move from spot to spot, so clean and move Fluffy’s beds frequently.

Scratching Posts

Kitties have a very strong, instinctive need to keep their claws sharp. This can sometimes put them at odds with their humans. Most people aren’t thrilled when their cats use their sofas as nail-care stations. Fluffy will need a good, sturdy scratching post. Make sure it’s tall enough to allow her to stretch when she scratches.

Cat Towers

Cat towers are very beneficial, as they provide our furry friends with scratching posts, nail care stations, and jungle gyms. They also offer Fluffy a great vantage point of her kingdom, and give her yet another napping spot. Keep Fluffy’s age and purrsonality in mind when shopping. Kittens will prefer pieces that incorporate lots of fun toys, while adult cats may be more interested in comfy napping spots. Senior cats, on the other hand, often have trouble climbing or jumping far, and will need things that are easy for them to get on and off. If you have more than one kitty, choose pieces that will fit all your furballs at once.

Kitty Tents/Tipis

Cats are very inquisitive by nature, and really love to explore little nooks and crannies. Kitties also feel safe in small spaces. If you have a scaredy-cat on your hands, pick things that offer your timid pet hiding spots, such as pet tents or tipis.
