Reasons To Love Black Cats

October 18, 2021
Halloween is just around the corner! You may be seeing quite a few products with black cats on them. Black kitties have unfairly been linked to witches and witchcraft since the middle ages. Unfortunately, those rumors follow Fluffy to this day. That’s really unfair, because black cats make pretty purrfect pets! In this article from Westside Animal Hospital, a Savannah, GA vet lists some great reasons to love black cats.

They Are Lucky

It’s no secret that black cats are often (and unfairly) associated with bad luck. However, what’s not as widely known is the fact that some places consider them good luck. For instance, in Britain, sailors thought Fluffy brought good weather!

They Match Everything

Fluffy is a great style choice. No matter what style you go with for décor, or what outfit you’re wearing, your feline pal will fit perfectly!

They Need The Love

Black cats have had a bad rap since the Middle Ages, when the witchcraft fears were at their peak. Those old misconceptions sadly make it hard for them to get adopted. They can take as much as 13 percent longer to get adopted than other felines, and can make up as much as 40 percent of a shelter’s inhabitants.

Fun With Names

Choosing a name for Fluffy can be quite fun. You can go with a classic black cat name, like Salem or Sabrina. Or, follow the Simpsons’ lead and name your feline friend Snowball. (Note: The Simpsons’ black furball was actually Snowball 2. The show is now up to Snowball V.)

They’re Shiny

Kitties are very clean in general. However, you may notice that black cats often look shiny and pretty … even after they’ve been rolling around on the lawn.

Void Kitty Photos

Cats are very photogenic. However, people with black cats can really have some fun taking pictures of their kitties in dark areas, where all you can see are Fluffy’s eyes.

Purrs And Cuddles

Black cats are just as sweet and lovable as any other furball. In fact, many of them are actually super cuddly. This is often the case with pets that were rescued or were adopted from shelters. Kitties know when someone has helped them, and they’re often extremely loyal and grateful to their rescuers. Do you have questions or concerns about cat care?
