Spending National Puppy Day With Little Fido

March 15, 2023

National Puppy Day is March 23rd! While our canine pals will always be puppies at heart, Fido is extra cute during that adorable toddler phase. In this article from Westside Animal Hospital, your Savannah, GA animal clinic, a local vet offers some tips on how to pamper your furry friend on his special day.

Toys

Puppies are playful and curious. They’re also fuzzy, four-legged chewing machines. You’ll need to provide your cute pet with plenty of suitable toys. Keep in mind that different toys fulfill different needs. Some are comfort toys, which are good for snuggling. Others, such as puzzle toys, keep your canine companion occupied. Puppies also need plenty of chew toys. Pick up something new for your little buddy!

Treats

You don’t want to go overboard with treats. Snacks should only make up about five to ten percent of your furry pal’s daily caloric intake. That said, get little Fido something special for his big day.

Beauty Session

While your pet’s individual grooming needs will depend on his fur type and length, all dogs need some help with their beauty regimens. You don’t want to clip little Fido before his adult fur comes in, but you can get him used to being brushed and bathed and having his paws and teeth cared for.

Photo Session

There’s no wrong time to take a cute puppy picture. However, your furry buddy will be extra cute after he’s been brushed and bathed. Snap plenty of pictures of this cute stage in your pet’s life. Fido will be all grown up before you know it!

Adventures

Going to new places and meeting new people can be fun for puppies. It’s also important for socialization. Host a puppy playdate, or meet some friends for a walk in a park.

Training

Little Fido has a lot to learn in that first year. Take some time to work with your canine buddy. Make training fun by offering lots of praise and (small) treats when your adorable student picks something up.

Love

At the end of the day, the best thing you can do to get little Fido’s cute tail going is by paying attention to him. Talk to him, pet him, and don’t skimp on those belly rubs.
