Rabbits may not take to their personal bathrooms as quickly as cats do, but they can definitely be taught where to do their business. Needless to say, this would make thing much easier on you! Supplies

A trip to the pet store is definitely in order. You can get a large cat box, or a cement-mixing pan. If you have two bunnies, you’re probably better off with the latter option, as your pets may need to both fit in the box at once. It’s a good idea to get more than one, at least for now. You’ll also need to get some litter. Stay away from clay and clumping litters, as well as pine and/or cedar products. Let your furball have her say as well: some bunnies have specific preferences. We also recommend getting a hayrack, and putting it over the box. Floppy sometimes likes to eat in her powder room.

Getting Set Up

At first, set out more than one litterbox. This will give your bunny a say in how she wants her bathroom set up. Down the road, you’ll be able to remove the extra ones. Adding some of your furry pal’s waste to the box will help her associate the box with its desired function.

Training Area

Initially, you may want to keep your bunny confined to a specific room or area. You can use a puppy pen if you like. Keep a close eye on Floppy, especially after meals. If you think she is about to relieve herself, pick her up and put her in the box. If she uses it, immediately reward her with praise and treats. That’s pretty much it! Your furry friend will get the hint sooner or later.

Tips

Avoid punishing Floppy for mistakes. You also should never reprimand your bunny when she is in or near the box. This may make her scared of it, which will have the opposite effect!
