I truly can’t say enough amazing things about Westside Animal Hospital.
One minute I found a tumor in my dog’s mouth, and the very next I had her in their office being cared for. Dr. Purcell acted quickly—he prescribed medication right away and got us scheduled for surgery the following week without hesitation. He performed the procedure, including extractions, and made sure everything was sent off for biopsy so we had answers.
Unfortunately, the results weren’t the news we were hoping for, but through it all, they have been incredibly compassionate, understanding, and supportive. They took the time to walk me through everything, referred me to an oncologist, and made sure I knew all my options without ever making me feel pressured. That level of attentiveness and care is something I will never forget.
Even after surgery, when she developed an upset stomach from her medications, they didn’t hesitate for a second to get me what she needed. That kind of responsiveness means everything when you’re worried about your pet.
On top of Dr. Purcell being amazing, his entire staff is just as incredible. Every technician we interacted with was kind, gentle, and attentive, and the front desk team is always so welcoming, helpful, and organized. You can truly feel how much they all care.
What stands out the most is how respectful, thorough, and genuinely caring the entire team is. Their pricing has also been very fair and reasonable, which has made such a stressful situation easier to navigate.
I am so happy I finally made the switch from the franchise vet I had been going to for the past 12 years. Looking back, I wish I had found Westside much sooner—I would have saved so much stress and money. My parents recommended them after bringing their own pets here, and I haven’t looked back since. My only regret is that they weren’t our forever vet from the beginning.
Without a doubt, my other 11-year-old will be coming here next. I truly could not recommend Westside Animal Hospital more. They are everything you could hope for in a veterinary team.
The absolute most attentive listeners to every word spoken. To be the most informative caring and concerned and patient staff I've ever seen. From the first phone call to find a new Veteran through the entire appointment. It was if they'd love my dog his entire life. I was completely comfortable handling Brody to them. She talked to him like I do. Petting him. Calming him. Soo gently. Thank you to the ENTIRE Staff at Westside Animal Hospital for EVERYTHING. Honestly I have nothing but kind words for Westside Animal Hospital. My fur babies have been with Dr. Purcell for a couple years now.The staff has always been kind to us and our babies (even if our babies weren't so nice to them). When my Spooky boy was sick they were kind, compassionate and moved in an urgent matter in treating him and keeping me updated on his condition. Even now getting medication refills is a breeze and my Spooky boy is living his best mischievous life thanks to Westside Animal Hospital. Thank you for everything you have done for us and our fur babies.
I’m new to Georgia and needed to find a veterinarian for my dog. Based on strong Google reviews, I chose Westside Animal Hospital and had my first visit about a month ago.
Since moving to the Savannah area, I’ve been adjusting to what feels like a general lack of customer service in the local service industry. Too often, it feels as though employees dislike their jobs and view customers as an inconvenience. Unfortunately, that was my first impression here as well.
During my initial visit, the front desk receptionist immediately stood out — and not in a good way. I don’t expect employees to be overly cheerful or “extra,” but when you walk into a business for the first time, the front desk person should at least appear approachable and not openly bothered by your presence. Her demeanor was cold, disengaged, and unwelcoming to the point that I considered asking if everything was okay.
That said, I was called back quickly, and the technician was excellent. Another tech who assisted during the appointment was also great, and Dr. Purcell was fantastic. Because of that, I decided to overlook the receptionist’s attitude and assumed she was simply having a bad day.
On 1/8/26, I returned for a follow-up appointment scheduled for 11:20 a.m. I arrived at 11:10 a.m., and unfortunately, it was the same receptionist with the same miserable demeanor. I greeted her with “hello” and received no response other than being asked my dog’s name. She told me she would “let the tech know,” but again in a tone that made it clear she hates her job, despises interacting with customers, and has no interest in providing even basic customer service.
There was only one other dog present, who had to wait outside due to being aggressive. At 11:20, another couple arrived stating they also had an 11:20 appointment. Around 11:25, the first dog was brought back. About 10 minutes later, the dog that checked in after me was taken back. Both appointments were completed and had left by 11:50, while I continued waiting with no explanation.
By 12:00, I was 40 minutes past my appointment time, and my dog had been the only dog in the lobby for the previous 20 minutes. At 12:05, I took my dog outside and waited until 12:10, a full hour past my appointment time, still with zero communication from anyone on staff.
During this time, it was especially frustrating to watch the front desk receptionist and veterinary technicians laughing and joking. Normally, that wouldn’t bother me at all — in fact, it’s nice to see employees enjoy their work environment. However, given that my appointment was completely ignored, it came across as unprofessional. Ironically, it also showed that the receptionist does have a personality, she simply chooses not to use it when interacting with customers.
It became clear that the receptionist views her role as limited to answering phones and checking people in, with no responsibility for communicating delays or acknowledging waiting clients. She would greatly benefit from being cross trained in basic customer service and communication, especially in situations like this. At 12:10 p.m., I left. I wasn’t going to waste any more time sitting there without acknowledgment or explanation. As of writing this review, six hours later, I have still not received a phone call to apologize or even to ask whether I had left.
Delays happen. Completely skipping a scheduled appointment and failing to communicate at any point does not. I will never return to this clinic. That’s unfortunate, because the technicians and doctor were excellent, but I refuse to give my money to a business where the first person representing the clinic clearly does not care about customer service, professionalism, or the clinic’s reputation.
We absolutely love Dr. Purcell and his entire team! They’ve been taking amazing care of our four furbabies: three cats and one dog—for the past three years, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Every visit is met with kindness, patience, and genuine compassion. They treat our pets like their own and always take the time to explain everything clearly and thoughtfully. We couldn’t imagine going anywhere else and fully plan to stay with them for many years to come! Highly recommend! 🤍
Very professional and sweet staff! I was nervous having my baby go to a new vet but when I scheduled everything, Rachel assured me they would take the best care of my boy and they sure did. They let me know every step of the way what was going on with him and Rachel was so comforting to my boy. The prices are pretty reasonable and fair too, I'm glad of all places I switched to it was this one!
This was my first visit and I am happy with the vet and the attention they gave my cat Lucy..she is afraid of strangers yet she didn't pitch a fit ..she let them handle her with no problems and her not being stressed is highly important...I don't see her eye watering after one dose of drops and after 2 doses of antibiotics she has not sneezed..the meds are 10days but the Dr definitely knows his stuff
My dog and I, we love Katie, she is an amazing person and caregiver with your dogs. And everyone else are great too, they give you all the information you need and they make sure you understand everything before you leaving or getting there, they take their time to explain all the financial and services. Very efficient, not going to nowhere else but here. 100% recommend
Staff was very friendly and able to get me an appointment pretty quickly for a pet injury. Prices are more reasonable than some other places in town as well.
They got me in same day for my sweet baby. They were alittle backed up but I didn't mind because I know Dr. Purcell takes the time to have real conversations with his patient's parents and I appreciate that. Had a bad experience with the last vet I frequented so I am ecstatic to find somewhere where the entire staff seems to be present and caring.
Friendly staff and very thorough. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a great veterinarian! My cat thanks them very much he is back to his fun loving self.
Dr. Purcell and his staff are wonderful! They are always so friendly and don't mind you asking questions. Dr. Purcell spends time with you and your pet and makes sure your pet is healthy and happy as well as makes sure he has answered all your questions. Highly recommend them! You won't find better care than this!
I am a huge fan of Dr. Purcell and his staff. We moved to Georgia from Fl. I have only gone one time yet we have an appt this morning. It's a bit of a worry situation and they fit my Paco right in. When I was there last time it was comfortable Dr.Purcell educated me in a respectable with caring mindset. He took time with my Paco and me to make sure I understood all the issues and options we had. Paco received excellent care. Dr.Purcell and his staff are GREAT! I recommend this business 100%
One of the best vets I have been to. We adopted a stray puppy who had previous unknown physical trauma and is a very nervous high energy pup. Even with it being a wellness visit he is wiggly and scared. Rachel was absolutely amazing with him. She was patient, kind and understanding. I never felt rushed or judged. We've put alot of work into him and it doesnt always show when theyre extremely stressed (like at a new vets office) I absolutely felt seen and heard as a pet owner. I am extremely happy with our first visit and will absolutely be recommending them to everyone. I cannot thank you enough, Rachel and Dr. Purcell. 10000/10 will forever be returning.
Dr. Purcell, is very caring and he talks to you. His staff is just as great. Our little Daisy Mea, was attacked by a Neighbor's Pitbull Mix and he was just wonderful with her. She is home now but I know if I need anything he is just a phone call away.
