Holiday Gifts for Senior Cats

December 1, 2017
The holidays season has officially begun! As you pick out gifts for your friends and family members, don’t forget to get something for your cat. Of course, as Fluffy ages, her wish list may change a bit. While toys may make great stocking stuffers for kittens, older cats have slightly different needs. Here, a Savannah, GA vet lists some great gifts for senior cats.

Heated Bed

Just like people, cats sometimes get stiff and sore in their golden years. Fluffy may really appreciate a heated bed or a thermal warming pad on chilly nights.

Cat Grass Mat

A living mat of cat grass would make a great bed for your feline friend. This is a great way to upcycle a litterbox! Clean it thoroughly, and then put soil and seeds in it. In a few weeks, your kitty will have a purrfect lounging spot.

New Litterbox

Senior kitties sometimes have trouble using regular litterboxes. Get Fluffy a powder room with low sides, which will be easier for her to climb in and out of. If your home has multiple floors, you may also want to get her a few extras.

Senior-Friendly Cat Furniture

Cat towers are great for younger felines, but some of them can be difficult for senior kitties to get on and off. Get your furry pal some pet furniture with the lower levels close to the ground, which will be easier for Fluffy to climb onto.

Catnip

Our feline friends really never outgrow their love of catnip. Classic catnip mice are fine, but you can also get your cute pet a small pot of organic catnip, or offer her some catnip bubbles.

Pet Ramps

Fluffy may have a hard time jumping up to her favorite napping spots as she grows older. Get her some pet ramps or stairs, so she can get on and off the bed or couch more easily.

Treats

Treats are a great gift for any cat. Dental-formula snacks are a purrfect present for older kitties. You can also indulge your furball with her favorite store-bought treats.

Window Seat

Cats love to look out windows and watch birds and squirrels. Set up a comfy window seat for Fluffy, so she can soak up some sun and daydream about being a ferocious hunter. Happy Holidays! Please contact us, your Savannah, GA pet hospital, for all your cat’s veterinary care needs.
