5 Ways to Pamper a Bunny

April 1, 2021
Easter is just around the corner. That means that bunnies will be front and center for the next few weeks. Floppy makes a very cute and lovable pet, and she definitely has some very dedicated fans. Why not spoil her a bit? In this article from Westside Animal Hospital, a Savannah, GA veterinarian lists some ways for you to pamper your rabbit.

Great Cage

Your little buddy definitely needs a great cage. One common issue we see with bunnies? Not enough real estate! Make sure your furry pal has plenty of room to run, hop, and play, without tripping over her things.

Playtime

Rabbits are very frisky and active. Floppy will need several hours out of her cage every day. You’ll need to do some petproofing before letting your fuzzy friend out to play. Where does the pampering part come in? If you have the space, bunnyproof an entire room for your cute pet!

Treats

Treats are one of the best things in life, as far as our furry patients are concerned. (We’re inclined to agree.) Rabbits are no exception. Your pet’s main menu should be based on grass hay, commercial food, and fresh produce, but she can have something special now and then. Floppy has a bit of a sweet tooth, so she may appreciate some safe fruit, like strawberries. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Toys

Toys really shouldn’t be considered luxury items for bunnies. Rabbits have to chew constantly to keep their teeth from overgrowing. Therefore, giving Floppy lots of chew toys is a must! That said, your fuzzy pal will appreciate some new playthings.

Veterinary Care

Proper veterinary care is just as important for rabbits as it is for people. Floppy should come in at least once a year. We recommend getting your bunny fixed. Your pet will also need certain vaccinations, such as the R(V)HD and R(V)HD2 vaccines. In between visits, look for signs of illness or injury. If you spot anything amiss, don’t wait to see if it resolves itself. Call your vet immediately!

Tips

How do you know if you’ve pleased your furry buddy? One clear sign that Floppy is pleased would be the binkie. These are bunny happy dances. As you can probably guess, they’re super cute! Hoppy Easter! As your Savannah, GA veterinary clinic, we’re here to help. Call us anytime!
