Every Day Is Tag Day

April 1, 2023

Today is Every Day Is Tag Day! Actually, every day really is tag day. Making sure your pet is wearing proper ID tags doesn’t take much time or money, but could one day make a huge difference in your furry friend’s life. A local vet discusses tags in this article from Westside Animal Hospital, your Savannah, GA animal clinic.

Why Tags Are Important

We always recommend microchipping pets, even if you don’t plan to let them roam. That said, that doesn’t mean tags are no longer needed. They are still the simplest way for someone to connect you and your pet. They’re also required by law in many places!

Collars And Leashes

Choosing Fido’s collar or harness isn’t rocket science, but there are things to keep in mind. You’ll want to pick something that won’t rip or tear. Leather collars, for instance, get weaker over time, and may eventually break. There can be a safety concern here, as there is always a chance of a lost pet getting caught on something. Breakaway collars are a good solution for this. A proper fit is also important. You should be able to fit about two fingers under the collar.

Hi-Tech Options

Tags have gone high-tech in the last few years. You can now buy Fido and Fluffy tags that are enabled with GPS trackers. This is a wonderful development, and one we’re thrilled to see rolled out. Just do some research before purchasing one. There are several similar products out there, and they all have slightly different options and features. For instance, some work with cell towers, while others rely on wi-fi. Look into things like range, cost, battery life, and subscription requirements.

You can also get your furry buddy smart tags. These have QR codes, which, when photographed with a smartphone app, redirect to your own custom web page, where you can add crucial info, such as your contact information and your pet’s medical info.

Information

You can customize your furry buddy’s tags however you like. We recommend adding at least two phone numbers, so there’s a backup contact in case you can’t be reached. It’s also a good idea to offer a reward. That will increase the chances of someone returning your four-legged friend to you.
